Logical formulas in excel consists of inbuilt formulas AND, OR, NOT, TRUE, FALSE, IF, IFERROR, and IS. The excel formulas intake logical values as their input and return values as either true or false.

Benefits of using logical formulas in excel-

All the logical formulas in excel are capable of performing a special function of displaying the output as either true or false after checking the conditions. The major functions of all the benefits are mentioned below –

  • AND formula – The AND formula accepts logical inputs and returns TRUE only when all the inputs are true else returns FALSE.
  • OR formula – The OR formula accepts logical inputs and returns TRUE even if one of the inputs is TRUE and FALSE only when all the inputs are FALSE
  • NOT formula – The NOT formula accepts only one single argument and returns either TRUE or FALSE. The NOT formula reverses the output that means it changes true to false and vice versa.
  • TRUE formula- True formula Doesn’t takes any input rather it just displays true as the output
  • FALSE FUNCTION – Just like true formula, false also doesn’t takes any arguments rather just displays false as the output.
  • IF FUNCTION- if function takes three inputs, first one being the logical argument, that returns either true or false. Then you can specify the values that return true or false.
  • IFERROR FUNCTION – This function takes two inputs, first one being the value and second one the output to be displayed when the first value is an error.
  • IS FUNCTION – This function is the simplest and most powerful function. This function checks every value and then reruns output as either true or false.

How to use the AND formula?

AND function in excel takes input of a logical value and analysis them. After the analysis process, it displays the output. To learn how to use AND function in various ways and what values it gives, follow the following mentioned steps –

  • Prepare any logical data where you’d want the answer to be displayed in either true or false.
  • To use the AND function, start with equal to sign and type AND. In the bracket type both the arguments as TRUE
  • On pressing enter, the output will be displayed as TRUE.
  • Inbuilt conditions can also be checked within the AND formula. Just start by typing equals to sign and write AND
  • The bracket opens, inside the bracket write the condition and press enter.
  • Select each condition one by one and press F9. If the condition will be true, it will display TRUE else false.

How to use the NOT formula?

The NOT formula accepts only one argument and gives a logical output and reverses the output itself. To understand how this works, follow the following mentioned steps –

  • Prepare any logical data where you’d want the output to be displayed in either true or false
  • In the output section, start by typing equals to sign followed by NOT
  • In the bracket fill in the logical argument that is either true or false.
  • Press enters. On pressing enter you’ll notice that the argument reverses. That means, true changes to false and false changes to truth
  • To evaluate conditions with NOT, follow the same procedure of typing NOT and then type a TRUE CONDITION inside the brackets.
  • Press enters. As soon as you press enter, the output is displayed as FALSE.

How to use if error function?

The if error function accepts two inputs and gives the output as either the result of first function or the message given in second one. To learn how to use this function follow the following mentioned steps –

  • Start by taking some numerical data exactly as shown in the example below
  • Start with an equal to sign and type the if error function. Inside the brackets input the first argument which is a value which you want to analyze and the other argument that works when the first value has an error
  • Type the cell reference of the cells where the numerical data is stored inside the brackets.
  • Along with the first value, also type the second input that must be displayed if the first value is an error.
  • If the initial value has an error then the second input will be displayed else the first value will be solved and displayed as output.
  • If you don’t specify the second condition to be executed when the first value is an error then the values won’t be accepted.
